Let's Talk

By RJ Patel, Chair, ISSA Residential Cleaning Council

On January 1, 2017, ARCSI officially became a part of ISSA. And at that time, we were very much adjusting to the idea of being part of such a large organization. What would it mean to our membership? To the residential cleaning community we had built through ARCSI? When we merged, we likened ourselves to being the "little fish." That we are smaller and we would get lost among the many "big fish" that could be found at ISSA.

Well, anyone that thought we would not keep our culture and our community were most certainly wrong. At the 2017 ISSA Show in Las Vegas, we came together as we always do - a group that values the bond that exists between us. What's better is we welcomed newcomers to our celebration. While we strengthen the relationships that already exist, it was a nice chance to make some new friends.

The Residential Cleaning Council held its annual planning retreat recently and we had much the same discussion - has the merger been successful? How are the residential members of ISSA faring? And no surprise, we are doing well but we also think there is more that we can do to keep our residential members connected to each other.

And we are getting started on social media. We are all on social media every day - and in many ways it's the number one source for communicating with our peers. ARCSI has always had a Facebook page that we use to communicate what is going on. Now we have created a new private Facebook group that we can use ourselves to ask questions of each other, as well as share frustrations, celebrations, and best practices. Join this group today and be part of the discussion!

That's just the first step. There will be more to come, but, above all else, we want you to know that we are here and we are listening to you. We are the Residential membership of ISSA and we are here to serve you - the owners of professional residential cleaning companies.

If you have any suggestions please forward them to me, or call my cell 404-630-6998. Thank you!

Sincerely, RJ Patel

What Are Your Top Three Concerns?

We are planning for the year - the 2018 ISSA Show, Hot Topic Tuesdays and more. One critical element in our planning is ensuring that we address the topics, the concerns, and the issues that are of importance to you.

We are asking you to complete this short, one-question survey and tell us what are the three things that are of concern to you. What keeps you up at night? We want to know!

Complete the survey.

New Law in California Prohibits Employers Inquiring About Candidate's Prior Compensation

A new law in California, AB168, prohibits employers from inquiring about a job candidate's salary history. Under the law, it is a misdemeanor for interviewers to ask prospective candidates anything about current or past compensation, regardless of it is done in writing (including email) or orally.

The law is expected to significantly impact the hiring process for employers, recruiters and people seeking jobs in the state. Similar legislation is also going into effect in Massachusetts, Oregon, Delaware, New Orleans and New York City.
